resizedBuilthWells_Sept0676,000 children from 291 schools across the country registered to take part in Schoolchildren for Children’s main event day on Friday 29 September. Here’s what some of the schools thought:

Huw Williams, Assistant Headteacher, Ysgol Uwchradd Tregaron, Ceredigion. The school raised a total of £600 in the 2005 Schoolchildren for Children campaign.
“Although the rain meant we had to postpone our event until Monday 2 October, pupils and staff all had a great time doing laps of the school field. And the students were amused by the floral wellies sported by some of the teachers! Our Head of PE gave a presentation during morning assembly so everyone understood the aims of the campaign. We hope to have raised a significant amount of money for Schoolchildren for Children and the PE department is looking forward to using half the funds to improve PE lessons and fitness programmes.”

Kelly Bennett, PE Department, Hugh Christie Technology College, Tonbridge
“Friday was a huge success and the students really enjoyed themselves. Some of them even managed to run seven miles! We’ve already collected £650, with £200 still to come. Twins in Year 9 raised £55 each and another student in the same year has raised £72.”

Matthew Muspratt, PE Coordinator, Rice Lane Junior School, Liverpool. 334 pupils at Rice Lane raised a total of £2388 in the 2005 Schoolchildren for Children campaign. The school has registered again for the 2006 campaign.
“We used the money to fund early morning sports coaching sessions with qualified coaches focusing on speed, agility and fitness. These ran every morning throughout the spring and summer terms last year and all the children were able to take part. We also ran a Friday session for our girls’ football team. The sessions have been so popular that well be running them again this year once again using money raised through Schoolchildren for Children.”
